Paintings
I am not of a style, a school, or a movement. I am not part of a group of like-minded artists. I suppose I am a feme sole artist. Each blank canvas begins with a moment of visual arrestment. I keep returning to what my mind’s eye took in—sometimes for weeks; sometimes years—until I put the momentary glance together with the hidden message that is embedded within. Sometimes, for those with a keen eye, another secret reveals itself. This is not trickery; only a postscript.
For me, image becomes imagery through paint on canvas. So, each painting is an allegory as well as a narrative. The painting is what it seems to be, a record in paint. But within the canvas boundaries a manifestation of a larger, veiled idea resides. I love what I do—behind my easel; My paintings are stitches in my life’s tapestry.
